We ordered takeout last night—the family dinner—and it was still hot and incredibly tasty when we got it home. My husband and I have been dining at Shanghai for years and have never been let down. We also really enjoy their Sunday buffet and hope it returns soon!
Completely unacceptable. I ordered General Tso's chicken, but what I received was, I'm pretty sure, sweet and sour pork. The appetizer combo either tasted like old food that had been re-fried or was pulled straight from yesterday's trash. This might just be the worst food in the area. Save yourself the trouble and don't go here. You'll have a better experience picking up a frozen box of Chinese food from the store, microwaving it, and letting it sit out for a couple of days before eating. Consider yourself warned.
This restaurant should be closed down. The food they served was nearly inedible. The egg rolls were filled with what tasted like cinnamon instead of shrimp, and the rice resembled a questionable mix that was purported to be shrimp fried rice. The General Tso's chicken was watered down, soggy, and incredibly rubbery. It’s a disgrace that they consider this acceptable as Chinese food. I’ve been to China, and I would take my chances eating street food there rather than having this again! Zero stars. To make matters worse, when I returned the soggy General Tso's chicken and asked for something fresh, the staff went to the back, dumped out the water, and asked, "Is this better?" No refund was offered, which came as no surprise.
I wouldn’t make a special trip to eat here again. The chicken fried rice was terrible, and the hot and sour soup didn’t have any flavor. The beef lo mein was okay, but it somehow still lacked the taste you’d expect from lo mein. It felt like they anticipated a lack of flavor since they packed an excessive amount of soy sauce in our bag.
I finally had the chance to visit this restaurant to check it out for myself. I came by for dinner and ordered wonton soup, Mongolian beef, and the BBQ pork appetizer. Everything was fresh and tasty! Having lived in Houston, where there are endless great dining options, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was clean and well-managed. It provided a comfortable atmosphere for dining. I’m definitely planning to go back soon!
