Restaurante Londres - Funchal

A twenty year old library book about walking and eating in Madeira highly recommended this place. As others have commented, it is really good value and authentic. The food is in quite large portions and could often be shared, Quality is excellent. We had two of the daily specials, a grilled fish (swordfish? and I had black pork steaks. My meal was huge and tasted great. The fish was cooked perfectly. We might well have come back had we tried it earlier in our holiday but time was against us. The ambience is that of a busy cafe, though staff are calm and efficient. It isnt a place to have a romantic dinner but if you want good food in a lively atmosphere this could be for you.

Great value restaurant. Very well priced good quality food. Wine supplied by the jug excellent. Waiters friendly and efficient couldn’t fault this place ate their three times during our stay. Would highly recommend.

We always make sure and eat at Londres, we ate here 6 time whilst in Funchal, and many times before when on the Island of Maderia. it's been open since 1975 with the head chef still there. For us the place has a local Maderia atmosphere, the food on offer is varied, well cooked and presented. We have come to know the staff quite well and they go out of their way to help and accommodate our requests. Thanks to Milton and Fatima for looking after us and are looking forward to eating at Londres again this November. Some people will not like the amount of noise in the restaurant, however, it's not people shouting but part partly down to the design of the room. Narrow, fairly low ceiling and tiled walls, take this into consideration if you go there. But be rest assured you will come away feeling you've had a great meal and service. We some times have to ask for some of the dishes to either be smaller or removed due to the size of the meals, and do not be put off by this as the food cooked here is really good.
