Contribuiți la feedbackIt's a warm kitchen that's just as good for decor, atmosphere, diversity and taste of dishes. The margot is passionate about its business and easily shares its recipes. It was a very good country and family cuisine.
We were taken here for lunch by local French people who had heard about it, so it was a first time experience for the four of us. This tiny restaurant is located inside a home in a small hamlet outside of Excideuil, France. We were greeted in the parking area by the owner and she walked us through a gate into a patio area and into the dining area. The ambiance is typical old Perigord with stone walls and timber ceilings. On the walls were photos of the grandparent's, parents and family weddings plus other interesting things. There are three large tables and everyday is a different menu, so it is "the meal of the day" of typical Perigord food. We were served an aperitif of a sparkling wine with some delicious nibbles. Then a soup of broth with egg and pieces of bread in it. The taste was quite good. Then came the salad with lettuce, hard boiled egg, duck, nuts, foie gras, tomatoes. Next was a chicken leg with cut up fried potatoes. The chicken was tough and dry but the potatoes were delicious. Next was the cheese plate of brie, another mild white cheese plus the "cheese of the house" which was homemade. By this time we are getting quite full, but then the dessert came out. It was a roasted pear with a flan-type of thing that was served in a rectangular dish you scooped it from. Very tasty. Then the coffee and we were so full we rolled out of there for 25 euros each. Imagine that! All of that homemade food and lots of it, for so little.
We have had a very good time with christiane and gilles the owners of this host table, authentic meal with authentic people a feast for all senses we must discover the kitchen of "in the margot" very copied and very good
During one of our regular stays in dordogne, having bought a smart guide of dordogne I discovered with surprise a restaurant address "in the margot" to clermont of excideuil. it is advisable to book so that margot prepares the meal according to what you want to taste. But even without warning we had: a campagnard soup, a meat plate of country, meatballs confits with in accompaniment small peas young carrots celeri mitonnés and to finish eggs with milk caramel sauce. The little ones and the big ones have enjoyed themselves. the reception of the house mistress is very welcoming, we feel like our parents. vegetables are products of the household master and meats of neighbouring farmers. the owners are not first come. After learning the cooking of the big parents and doing his experience on betting, "the margot" had a restaurant in the old periguous. They are passionate about authentic cuisine and natural products. has not missed.
We can't come to "the margot" by chance, clermont of excideuil is really out of the beaten paths, except for connoisseurs. Real local products. Rustic frame with tablecloth, coffee makers and frames, as in my grandmother.
