We try to make a trip to the Duck Inn once a year and they never disappoint. Had two lobster tails and they were fantastic!! Of course we can’t go home without having their classic Brandy Alexander.
We visited the Duck Inn on a trip to Wisconsin (from southern Illinois, in my case), along with my family. I grew up in Chicago, had family in Wisconsin and like many, I headed north during the summers for vacations, reunions and camps. I think it would be fair to say that my parents, my brothers and myself were all seeking a nostalgic Wisconsin supper club experience on this trip. It is on that score that I enthusiastically recommend The Duck Inn. The decor and environment was 100% what I would imagine, but it 's all clean and updated and well cared for. The aquarium set into the bar is really cool as well. It looks classic, but we were told that it 's a relatively recent addition. As far as cocktails, I didn 't personally order any, but a tried a Wisconsin Old Fashioned that I poached from a family member and it was quite tasty. The drinks ordered by us were all classics, including a Shirley Temple slurped down by my son. My family seemed to enjoy them very much, and they definitely seemed supper club . Along with our brandy and whiskey heavy orders, the restaurant 's drink menu was extensive. It appears there are a great many very tasty ways to have a drink or two or too many. Particularly of interest were the warm winter drinks and the sweet ice cream dessert cocktails. We didn 't order any because we were already eating everything in sight and drinking like Nonny and Da were still alive and more would have been too much. If we visited regularly though, it could be a lot of fun to work through those menus. For appetizers, we ordered the escargot and calamari. The calamari was amazing. The escargot was...not my thing in the slightest. I was really happy to have had the opportunity to give it a shot though. My wife and daughter are both fairly picky though and ordered apps as their mains onion rings and mozzarella logs, respectively. They ate voraciously and the onion rings had just the kind of breading she likes. I tried both and they were great. My entree was the cashew duck breast when in the Duck Inn, eat duck, I guess. I got the spinach salad with warm bacon dressing and it was really good.
It was my first time at this quaint supper club. The main dining room has a beautiful stone fireplace. My husband and I started our dinner off with a traditional brandy old fashion. We both ordered the Thursday special, 3/4 rack of ribs. I’m giving it a four star out of five because the food and service was good but, not great.
Lovely!!! We had a group of 15. Our waitress, Micah, was phenomenal! Definitely a professional!
