My former landlord loves visiting Deidesheim. He highly recommended Turm Stub'l to us. It is one of his favorites. So we had to try it out. He was right. So we'll pass on his great tip. But, don't tell all your friends. This will be our little secret. If it gets too popular we'll never land a table! The food part of the menu is short and they keep a shorter specials list. Even so it's hard to choose, everything sounds good or at least intriguing. They have an interesting selection of local wines. They devote a page of the menu to the story behind their homemade bratwurst. I noted that after ordering their lamb sausages. They came with some less common vegetables (kohlrabi and salsify) and a small soufflé with goat cheese. My spouse tasted it and found it to be a bit gamey. She doesn't care for strong flavors like goat cheese. I loved it. She had roasted veal, it was very much to her liking. Their wine cream soup is wonderful. Interior is cozy, service is friendly, and they offer to speak English. But they are good sports about letting us practice our German. I can hardly wait until we get back there so I can try the bratwurst!
This was our first dinner in Germany, and my wife and I chose well. This place was recommended as a restaurant where locals come and have local cuisine. We made reservations since it was the weekend. I had a lamb sausage with some potatoes and something like a small fritatta along with a glass of good Riesling. My wife had a wonderful salad with warm cheese and pomegranates as well as a vegetable casserole. She loved the salad, but the casserole had some white cheese in it which made it too salty, so she was disappointed with that. My sausage was delicious.
We used to eat here quite regularly when we lived in Germany 14 years ago and are delighted to say it is as good as ever. Great service, good selection including vegetarian options as well as local specialities. Lovely warm chocolate tart for dessert. Wonderful lunch brought back lots of good memories.
The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious and the service very nice. This is a true Pfalz experience, even if the wine list is not very comprhensive.
