My husband and I chose this restaurant for our 32 wedding anniversary because of the awesome reviews. We called ahead and asked for the best table in the house and told them we were celebrating our 32nd anniversary. When we arrived, we were treated very poorly and given the worst table in the restaurant – right by the door. My husband and I both ordered their seafood platter – which was one of their more expensive menu items. The meal came with a relish tray, a salad, an assortment of buns and banana bread, and two sides. The relish tray took 3/4 of an hour to arrive and a half hour later our salad and bun assortment arrived. The relish tray was a nice touch, and the bread was very nice. We asked for some extra buns because by this time we were starving and were treated like we were a huge inconvenience, and the basket was just thrown on the table. Our main course finally arrived – and the assortment of seafood was over done to the point of almost being inedible. The shrimp was so over done it was difficult to cut, the scallops were like rubber, the fish was so dry it was difficult to swallow, and the crab cake was sitting in a puddle of grease. It took the waiter half a hour before he checked to see how we were doing. I told him the seafood was overcooked and he immediately brought over a manager who rudely asked “what did we expect them to do? Get us a new plate of food?” By this time I was full and didn’t want any more food. There was no apology, no offer of a complimentary desert, or a specialty drink, and the meal was not discounted. As one of the sides my husband had asked for a baked potato and the restaurant charged him an extra $2.50 for the sour cream – what an insult. Between the two of us, we spent over $100.00 excluding drinks. This was the worst meal we have ever been served, the price was steep, and the service was rude and snooty. What was really offensive was the service the regulars were getting and the warmth being exuded. My advice – if you are a tourist – save your money and go somewhere that will appreciate your business and know how to treat their patrons. Bob Hellman’s acts like an old boys club – and does not treat tourists with any degree of civility.
Everything was great that we ordered oysters we got the last dozen when they opened, we would have got more than the big one.
