Gyu-kaku Japanese Bbq - Chicago

Always great time by Gyu but we especially enjoy the Lakeview location

I'm so happy I found this place. Took my husband here for his birthday and he couldn't be happier. Service and food 10/10. Everything was so perfect. Everyone was so nice and friendly, and the food was delicious

Been coming here for a year and these last couple of times really sealed the coffin. Wife and I found a piece of stringy metal in our meat after grilling, it came right out the muscle. Seemed to be a small piece of a black cleaning lofa, manager did concede that they do use that kinda lofa. We appreciated that he didn’t try to make excuses. We went one more time after that, and unless you like your meat seasoned with cleaning solution don’t come here. The server flipping the table next to us profusely starts spraying the table and we had a whole swath of solution airborne to inhale and to my ultimate disgust thanks to their lighting I saw a massive cloud of airborne solution settling on our raw meat. Not the seasoning I was looking for for my meats to grill. I run and manage similar businesses with staff members that shouldn’t deter customers. When I explained to the manager that it’s proper to spray the towel you are using and then wiping instead of directly spraying surfaces he gave me a look of absolute perplexity. That sealed it for me. This is basic food handling 101. This was a nice run while it lasted but I have spent money here more than I can count and won’t even attempt at another branch because there was absolutely no corrective action taken on both negligent situations. Also the meat cuts have been treacherous lately, awkward cuts. I’ll keep it movin, thank you.

Like previous reviews mentioned, we saw a HUGE rat?running under our table this time when we dined in, which was close to the kitchen area.Also, when we asked the server to clean the bbq “ring” for us as it has some left over from previous customers, she refused to do it. The reason she told us was that they usually don’t clean it up until the end of the day. Obviously, she was lying. We never met such issue when having Gyu on Ohio St and in other cities.This location has sanitation problem. If you are the person who likes clean and ventilative environment, find another Gyu location in Chicago area.

I still give Gyu Kaku 5 star review because of I am a fan for this place for long time. You provide the best meat and food with reasonable price with good quality. Today I was very very disappointed with the rice, how come you use long grain rice to serve with the meal. Your Sushi rice or Jasmin rice will make meat better taste. You guys down grade to provide cheap rice. It won’t taste good with the meat. Sauce is gluten free! Taste is far from before but I can acceptable. If my friends ask me to come to Gyu kaku. I have to think about it. I don’t mind to pay extra for better rice or you can add more price to be standard like before. Anyway my voice may not change anything. All Asian place that I go, they provide me the soft better rice. I am not gonna change you except change myself. Thank you for your best in the past.
