Abuelo’s Mexican - Chesapeake

This was honestly the most flavorless and unappetizing meal I've ever had. I dined here five years ago and couldn't stop praising it to my coworkers. Now that I'm back in the Greenbrier area, I thought it would be a safe bet — but I was wrong. I felt embarrassed by how poor the food, drinks, and service were. Despite a large group of about 30 people celebrating nearby, my meal was still disappointing. With so many Tex-Mex restaurants just a short distance away, I highly recommend choosing somewhere else. Even Taco Bell would have been a better choice than the $80 I spent for two people. To top it off, my stomach is not feeling great!

The hostess at the front was wonderful and very kind. However, once we were seated at our table, the experience took a different turn. Our waitress hurried us to make our order right after we sat down and remained overly eager to get our responses throughout the meal. There were only six tables being served, and it appeared that we were the only ones she was attending to. The restaurant wasn’t crowded, and we were simply looking to enjoy a pleasant dinner. More than one person in our group intended to order dessert, but she brought us our checks before even inquiring about it. While the queso was delicious, my trio fajitas were just decent—definitely not as authentic or flavorful as I’ve had elsewhere.

The restaurant is conveniently located and very clean. We were seated promptly, and the service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly, professional, and efficient. However, the food was disappointing. The chicken in the enchilada was excessively dry and lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes were decent but not remarkable. While the cleanliness and service were impressive, the food fell short. As for parking, there's a large lot situated close to the entrance.

When you first arrive it’s a really nice and neat location the interior is beautiful!! That’s about it that’s literally the most I can say. If you come with 6 or 7 people go elsewhere because they don't have the space. We just left and it was our first time but we won’t go back. The food was NASTY, I mean for the price you pay that’s just horrid. I was honestly expecting something amazing the steak was barely chewable the chicken was decent but bland but everything was incredibly salty. No one checks the food?? The kids food hit the table and their fries were all cold my sons nachos weren’t even nachos. The food is a joke! My waitress was inattentive but she wasn’t bad she probably hates her job but serving food like that I don’t blame her. The bar drinks were SPOT ON and fabulous. This was not authentic Mexican. I’d definitely recommend la patrona or Jose tequila but never this.

1st time here... Service was impeccable! My waitress was fast, attentive, and made great recommendations! I had a lemonade, chips salsa, and a Mexican Stack. I saw this place on the way to my hotel and came here for an early lunch. It did not disappoint. When I learned of the 2 choices of salsa, I was sure I would choose the Traditional over the Cilantro Pineapple, but it was hard to choose. The Cilantro Pineapple was surprisingly very good! The Mexican Stack was kind of like Mexican pizza, but it was stacked with toppings, so a fork was necessary. Everything was filling and delicious and topped off with excellent service!!!
