This is the real thing (almost) with Japanese proprietors/chef. Feels like It could be anywhere in Japan. Sashimi and sushi menu are classic, not over the top. Sashimi was super fresh and delicious. A little skimpy on the daikon oroshi serving with the shrimp tempura. The only off note is that probably in an effort to be generous on the sushi portion, the salmon and tuna (but not the bass) were quite thickly cut. Of course no authentic Japanese restaurant will ever serve a portion of four (which would have been the way to provide similar weight of fish and more expected sensation)... so I guess that's a minor quibble. If I were a regular, I'd be tempted to go ahead and order the larger 5-pieces, and ask the chef to cut 6-7 thinner pieces.
It was quiet here on a Saturday night which had me slightly concerned, however it proved to be a benefit with quick, friendly service. Many orders seem to be going with take away instead. For two people we thought it would be just the right amount with two orders of miso soup, a 5-piece silver sashimi set and two sushi rolls. It turned out to be slightly more filling due to the gigantic rolls. These were too big to enjoy as sushi should be, reminding me of a burrito rather than in bite sized pieces. Thus they fell apart and so we had to eat them messily and did not enjoy the experience. That is the only improvement I would make to the menu. The quality of the sashimi was top grade. Salmon, yellow tail, mackerel, albacore and toro were all delicious and fresh. It came with radish and wakame. Miso soup was also very tasty. I would return for the nigiri or sashimi. Unfortunately bento boxes were only available at lunch. A good place in the neighborhood.
Very authentic experience and taste with the entire staff from kitchen to waitress being Japanese. Sushi sashimi and the sushi in the Don Kaizen was very fresh, and the sushi rice was cooked properly. Tempura was a little caked on for my liking. Incredible roasted tea. Will return to try out the other food options such as gyoza and other sushi katsu and don options if they serve it.
I 'm probably going to upset a lot of people with this review because I 'm wondering, How in the hell does this place only have two reviews? Yes, this place is TINY. SUPER TINY. If a bunch of guys in Antman suits ate here, there might still be only enough seats for a dozen... But put that aside. Get here early. Only invite your close friend add an (s) only if you MUST. And enjoy the fish. Enjoy the superb selection of FISH. The mackerel. Aaaahhh, the mackerel. Enjoy the mackerel. Even if you don 't like it and I 'm not particularly a fan. My wife is, so I must partake, and I 'm glad I did here. I don 't know where they get it from or what they do to it but I don 't ask too many questions when it tastes good... Looooove this place. Enjoy but don 't tell too many people...
