The top Chinese restaurant in Burleigh, located in a modest part of town. We have enjoyed numerous meals there over the past 7 years and have become acquainted with the friendly owners, Janet and Simon. Despite being constantly busy with no other staff, they always provide excellent service. I would suggest this place for a tasty and affordable Chinese meal (dine-in or takeaway), but not necessarily for a special event.
Since writing my last review for Simon's Asian restaurant, I returned last week with my husband for an impromptu quick meal.Last time we ordered take away over the phone. This time we decided to eat in the restaurant (first time). No other diners were there when we arrived although a large family group turned up half way through our meal. The young girl serving was polite and friendly. I was horrified by the menus. The laminate covers were absolutely filthy. The inside of the menus (printed on copy paper so reasonably cheap to re copy) were disgusting. They were both marked by greasy fingers or by copious amounts of people handling them.We almost decided to leave before ordering but I was hungry and the last meal was great so decided to stick it out.Have to say I was concerned with the possibility of food poisoning as we were flying overseas the following day. I am not someone who is fanatical about cleanliness but this was unacceptable.Thankfully the meal was fine and we did not get sick. Please, please reprint your menus and wash or replace the laminate covers. It is a real put off and because of this we won't return or order again. There are so many other options close by. It's a shame as I like to support local businesses but won't accept dirt in a restaurant.
We decided to get takeaway a couple of nights ago.We ordered fried rice and Honey Prawns. Oh my, the prawns were superb!Batter was crispy and lightly coated in the honey sauce. When you bit into one the batter was crisp, the prawns hit and juicy, the honey coating complemented it perfectly. So delicious. It's making my mouth water just thinking of it.I had tried the crispy beef the week before but the strips of beef were a bit too thick to be crispy. It was takeaway so maybe lost the crispness during the travelling. Anyway, the Honey Prawns are the draw card for me.Thank you. Looking forward to my next order.
