I had to rate my last meal a 4 because when I tried the macaroni salad, the pasta was so undercooked that it was hard and inedible. I am familiar with al dente pasta, but this was completely raw. I was disappointed to have wasted $8.99 on an inedible dish.
If you are not familiar with Jamaican cuisine, you might be at a loss.
Smokey Island Grill is the only place I know of where you can customize your own plate. This is a big deal for West Indian cuisine because sometimes I don't want to choose between oxtails, curry goat, jerk pork, etc., especially with the rising cost of meat. I appreciate that I can sample a bit of everything at a reasonable price and the food is always well-cooked. The menu is quite extensive, offering jerk, fish, fried fish, and various sides - all delicious. The restaurant is small, but I usually order takeout so the size doesn't bother me. They also serve homemade juices and baked goods, both of which are excellent. Parking can be a challenge as it is located on Fulton Street, but it is worth the effort to find a spot if you don't have someone to wait in the car while you pick up your meal.
Tasty good fresh food. I drive from New Jersey to get my food from Smokey Island Grille.
I think it’s been renamed Hunter’s grill. Had some amazing oxtails and rice and beans here. Workers were busy putting out new trays. If you’re into richly flavored, comforting stews, this is a great choice.Food: 5/5
