Kona Grill Kansas City - Blue Summit

We went for Mother's Day. Our first time there. We waited 30 minutes past our reservation time but that was okay because it was a busy day. We spent $15 each on terrible drinks. Waited an hour for drinks, and another 90 minutes for food. My plate was too hot to touch (even though the food on the plate was cold) and the waiter dropped it...on my purse. They wanted me to pick it up and eat it. 4 of our 5 meals had to be sent back and the second ones were no better...after another 30 minute wait and having to ask for our food again. We left hungry. Mother's Day dinner with my mom and daughters was ruined. We will never go back and will tell anyone who asks to avoid it.

They must have changed their cooks or menu or something. Been there several times and has never been this bad. EXTREMELY over priced for what you get. $25 chicken sandwich that looks like a mcchicken. Probably won't go back

Our wait for food was long, even for a holiday. The macadamia chicken was like a frozen banquet patties and were super dry. The green beans had absolutely no flavor, neither did the whipped potatoes (which were also dry); like I don 't think they even used salt and pepper kind of bland. The drink my wife ordered didn 't taste like a margarita and my sprite was flat; so flat that you couldn 't tell the difference between that and the water. Our son 's burger was ordered well done , but it was actually black around the edges, burnt. The one bright spot was our server, Ellie, who handled everything with grace and was apologetic for things taking so long. The wait staff was tripping all over themselves to apologize for the kitchen backup. For a restaurant on the Plaza that is an established place, the food was just awful for the price we paid for it. It wasn 't just us. The people at the next table over were saying the exact same thing; their meal was awful and it was too expensive to not have a good meal. We all agreed when we left that we would have been happier with the food if we went to an Applebees or something like that. I can 't imagine Kona will be open much longer if other people had a bad experience like we did. We will not be going back to Kona; it is overrated.

Our waiter was great. The food was fair. The menu was considerably less than what the advertised on the website. The were out of many items. Very expensive for the overall experience.

They seemed to have overbooked as reservations were not honored timely. Additionally it took an hour or more to get food. My meal upon arrival was hard and cold and not tasty at all. Disappointed in my first experience at this establishment.
