Contribuiți la feedbackI had dinner at Rainbow yesterday and today with my family. I have been going to Rainbow for the past 29 years and I have always found it to have the best Chinese food in Birmingham. The food at Rainbow has a unique taste that I love. I had not visited Rainbow in the last few months because there was possibly a different chef whose cooking did not meet my standards. However, when I visited this week, I was pleasantly surprised by the improved quality of the cooking. I highly recommend the delicious taste of Rainbow.
This restaurant is a very old traditional establishment run by a family. I have been coming here regularly and always have a fantastic meal. There is a good variety on the menu, all dishes are freshly cooked and nicely presented. The food is very tasty. I definitely need to go back sooner. It's great value for money.
Since the end of lockdown, we have revisited this restaurant multiple times and I am happy to report that it is just as excellent as before. The food is fantastic, there is a good variety of drinks available, and the staff are as friendly as always. Rainbow is still one of our favorite spots.
The Rainbow has been our regular for decades, but we’ve experienced a change recently. The food was always delicious, but our last two takeaways have been very disappointing. The overriding taste of the hot and sour soup was mostly of vinegar, the sesame prawn toasts were saturated in oil, the noodles in the chow mein were too thin, not the usual, which became very soggy when even a small amount of curry sauce was poured over it. The duck meat had loads of fat still on it and was very dry, not the tasty dish we usually have When eating in the restaurant. Our previous takeaway, duck in orange sauce, was also very poor. So, what’s happening at our lovely Rainbow restaurant? I hope it recovers from what’s ailing it.
We were looking for a Chinese on Sunday afternoon for a birthday celebration with children We live near Solihull and all those around were not open on Sunday afternoon We didn’t want to go to the city centre so found Rainbow on Trip Advisor. We weren’t disappointed First impressions aren’t good. Rainbow is in a block of shops in a non too salubrious area of King’s Heath. The outside needs sprucing up and the inside is quite dingy. The staff were brilliant but did not really look the part. However, we had a table for 11 and the restaurant was half full at 3pm on Sunday. We ordered the 2 set meals, 1 veggie and 3 kids plus Peking duck as a starter. Every dish was plentiful, hot and tasty, unlike some set menus when some dishes are left untouched. Highlights were the duck, spicy chicken and both prawn dishes. We had the Chinese lager, which was reasonably priced and better than Carling. Even the wine, a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was good: overpriced as everywhere but OK. We left at 6-30, by which time the place was very busy and you’d struggle to get a table. Obviously the locals know something Finished with banana fritters. We overstayed our welcome and were in the restaurant for 3.5 hours but no hassle from the staff. Highly recommended and will certainly go again, possibly as a stopping off point after a days cricket at Edgbaston
