Chisos Mountains Lodge

I've been dining here for several years while camping in Chisos Basin. The menu offers a decent variety of options, and they can accommodate gluten-free meals. Prices are on the higher side due to the location and the general increase in food costs, but the quality of the food is quite good after a long day of hiking. The atmosphere isn't fancy, as it caters primarily to campers and hikers. One of the highlights is the great view from the large windows.

The restaurant opens for dinner at 4:30 PM, and although we had a brief wait, it was worth it. The views of the mountains are stunning. We ordered the barbecue plate with sausage and pulled pork, along with the bacon-wrapped filet mignon, served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. For dessert, we enjoyed sopapillas topped with ice cream. Everything was delicious, the service was quick, and our server was very friendly.

The staff at the restaurant was exceptional; they were friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. Our server took great care of us, even during the busy lunch rush. However, the restaurant could benefit from a refresh. While the large bay windows offer a fantastic view, it seems like the curtains, blinds, tables, chairs, and even the linoleum floor tiles (some of which were missing) have been there since the restaurant first opened. The atmosphere feels a bit like a multipurpose auditorium, where the space could easily transform into a dance venue, theater, reception hall, or even an emergency shelter. As for the food, it’s quite simple to prepare but well-presented. I can imagine that after a long day of hiking or several days of camping, the food would taste really great. If you’re looking for a dining experience that is just above cafeteria level, this is the place for you.

Pretty good food, little pricy but it costs a lot to run this place I'd imagine. The actual dining area could be fantastic with some simple decor or styling updates. Service was okay, on the slower side, waiter forgot a few things but corrected right away. He was definitely trying and cared.

Excellent views paired with good food. The options are limited, mostly salads and burgers/wraps but all well prepared. Loved the Banditos burger, huge portion and very well put together. Place is usually crowded but once you are seated you get friendly service. Did I say, great views :
