Lucky Chinese - Berlin

Rather disappointing experience in a cozy area of Tegel with lots of outdoor seating. The food was more German tasting than Chinese; typical Chinese spices were absent. My dish included a Chinese vegetable soup (extra price since I did not care of the soup of the day that included meat). The soup tasted salty, like Maggi. The main dish was called Chop Suey: the vegetables were not stir-fried but boiled, while the topf was inedible as a result of its super soft consistency. The desert, Chinese fruits, was canned peaches and pears in heavy syrup. The lunch crowd was impressive and I guess the restaurant is catering to the German expecting taste of Chinese Food. I tasted Chinese food on the East and West Coast of the U.S.A.: Lucky Chinese would not survive one day. Sorry!

The restaurant is nice, and the dishes we ordered (mostly typical shanghainese ones) had the real taste. The environment is cozy and the waiters attentive.My only complain is that the portions are small for the price they charge. I have eaten better chinese food for less money in Berlin, so I will not go back to that restaurant any time soon.

Most of the nearby restaurants were closed or closing and we went into the Lucky Chinese and they could not have been nicer to us. There were six of us and we were served right away and in no time at all we were tucking in to a feast of food, all of which was excellently cooked and very tasty. Portions were generous and the quality was first class. Good selection of drinks on offer too and the complimentary liqueur was a nice touch. Good value for money too. Very nice restaurant indeed.

Service nett, aber etwas schleppend. Aber der gemütliche Garten hat alles wett gemacht. 3 Minuten Fussweg vom Hotel am Tegeler See ist natürlich auch erwähnenswert.

Sehr gut mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln erreichbar. Ich habe dort nun schon mindestens 3 oder 4 mal gespeist und es war immer hervorragend. Leckeres Essen, nette Bedienung und ordendliche Preise, was will man mehr? Außerdem ein schönes Ambiente mit einem Fischteich. Ich kann es wirklich nur empfehlen, hatte einige schöne Abende dort.
