I would recommend only as occasional treatment, as it is quite expensive.
Very expensive for what you get. It was a beautiful experience, but probably it would not recommend unless it is a very special occasion. The sandwiches were very nice and the Scones. I think everything was fine. The staff was nice, but an additional 10% service fee on £45 odds per head, in my opinion, was too much. I had a better value for money and experience for similar things in cities like London, which are of course known for more expensive than Belfast. He made the mistake to ask for bottle water instead of tap and it costs almost £6/bottle (750ml) so afternoon tea costs £100 for two! It was also a Wednesday afternoon if it had been a bit more expensive on the weekend or something more justified. It was a late birthday contract for a friend, so she wrote a little cake with a happy birthday on it, which was a nice note, although I must admit. The place could be related to music. Maybe a piano player or at least a CD or something with chilled or relaxing music. Live music for such rooms would be typical in other 5* facilities, so I must admit that I was surprised that it was not the case here. Overall, it was a nice experience, but unlikely to go back due to the price and value ratio.
The hotel itself is beautiful, beautiful building and decor, the staff was beautiful, but for the price I expected more in terms of food, it was nice, but nothing from the ordinary. The gluten-free sandwiches were however unedible the bread was like cured wetabix, I would recommend changing your supplier
The location was lovely, the staff were very attentive. The food was delicious. There was no music/piano, extra pastries/cakes on offer which was so different to previous times I've been to the Merchant Hotel.
