I tried to save money by ordering a small portion of Cod and chips for £11, but I regret not paying the extra £1.50 for the larger size. It felt like a rip-off when my friend got a similar amount of food (chips and battered sausage) for only £6. Despite the food being tasty, the value for money was poor. I tried to upgrade to the larger portion, but apparently it had already been prepared. Overall, not worth the price.
My partner and I decided to grab some takeout lunch and enjoy it on the benches outside. The fish and chips were tasty, but unfortunately, the peas were a letdown. They had a strong garlic flavor, which was unexpected and unpleasant. It seemed like the garlic was added to hide the lack of flavor in the cheap peas. It would have been helpful if they had mentioned that the peas contained garlic, as it could be a problem for those with allergies or who simply don't like garlic. Overall, the meal was spoiled by the distasteful peas and we felt it was overpriced. The setting was nice, but it couldn't make up for the disappointing food.
I went to Salt and Malt for tea today with my three grandchildren. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were very kind and helpful, and went out of their way to assist us. It was a fantastic visit and we will definitely return.
What is the appeal of salt and malt fish and chip shop. A piece of overcooked haddock covered in leathery batter. Dry chips freezing cold battered Cumberland sausages. Which just doesn’t work putting the cold bit to one side a piece of cod the size of a fishfinger all for the grand total of £40 they did this to me once before two years ago but I thought give them the benefit of a doubt and low and beholders exactly the same absolute garbage
Got seated outside quickly. After we had looked at a menu we were ready to order. Staff walked past several times without taking our order. I walked in and asked for someone to take our order. I ordered the haddock which was not cheap at £18. It was as tough as old boots. so much so that it got stuck in my throat and we had to leave. This is my second visit and I'm afraid, my last.
