Contribuiți la feedbackThe food here was outstanding and service from the waiters was good. However, the manager (white shirt) was not at all accomodating poassibly intimidating.
We tried to book by phone for two hours before opening time but there was no answer so we arrived hoping to get a table for 3. The gentleman on the door... (god forbid not the proprietor) was completely rude and dismissive and basically told us to go away . However we were not that easily dismissed and noticed he was giving others a ticket with a number he would call when a table came free ... it seemed these were exclusively for Asian clients .. however after a some insistence we were begrudgingly given a ticket . After waiting respectfully for our table we thoroughly enjoyed our yum cha and also received very good service from the floor staff . I love yum cha and am glad we persevered through the appalling attitude of the host . Perhaps he needs to learn the importance of showing respect and gratitude to customers .. a little courtesy goes a long way .
This was the first time I visited this restaurant, we didn't have a booking , but after approx 20 minutes, we were offered a table. We started with entrees if dim sims, spring rolls & San Choy Bau... who serves these dishes without the sauces that accompany them, we had to ask more than once and it was as if we were bothering them. We proceeded to order the main courses, which did come out promptly , but the food matched the service, uninterested service along with bland dishes! All in all I would rate this 6/10... would I give it another go. Sadly, probably not !
We tried this on Tuesday night on the way to the movies (it is located at the back of the Hoyts Theatre complex so is very convenient, however most of the people who came in walked in from The Parade rather than the carpark, and as a number were Asian we decided that it had already made its mark locally. The decor is more upmarket than most Chinese restaurants, very Chinese in style and colour but still very stylish. We were greeted warmly and shown to a very nice table for two, we ordered spring rolls to share as an entree, and then sweet and sour chicken and stir fry beef and vegetables with steamed rice and to follow. The main courses were a good size, neither of us could finish totally, and they offered take away containers if we wanted to take the remains. My husband had a glass of wine and I had a soft drink, Dinner cost $52 all up. Yet another really nice place to dine in Norwood, we will go back again.
Found myself aimlessly wandering around Norwood Parade and I needed my inner foodie radar to head me in some sort of luncheon direction! Radar and I went past Argo, acknowledged the insane line up of high school foodie wannabees and we raced right on past asking ourselves, Why? Oh Why on earth would you wait in a line, nightclub style, to eat at a Café? Beats me peeps!!! GPS’s it into the Norwood Cinema complex and entered Eastern Garden, after promising myself and my foodie mates that I would never enter here again! Oops! You see peeps, the story is, that 3 of us tried to get into Eastern Garden a few months back for dinner without a booking and were treated so badly, we vowed never to return! Well I did! And the real reason is, to see if the service has improved. Well, it has, on this occasion anyway. This is quite a large restaurant and is still fairly new. The furnishings are probably a step up from the normal Chinese decorating that you see and of course set off with the obligatory fish tanks filled with yummy seafood goodness!I was offered a choice of Yum Cha (cooked fresh) or A La Carte. Since it was just moi, I went for the Yum Cha menu. Tea was offered and I accepted. I ordered Radish Cakes (my fav), these were fresh and crispy, very good. Crispy wontons filled with prawn and lobster, again very good, bean curd rolls, yum and dumpling with shark fin soup, delicate and delicious. As I was waiting for my meals to arrive, I perused the A La Carte menu and I found some really interesting dishes that I would like to return for. Whilst I was paying my bill at the counter, I grabbed a take away menu and questioned the waitress on what their delivery options were, there were none! This is almost unheard of these days, considering we have so many options, including Uber Eats. The waitress replied that they are too busy to do deliveries! Shame really. P.S. I will mention that although the staff were attentive and prompt on this occasion, a smile goes a very long way. It’s almost as if the staff are unhappy here, just speculation of course.
