In search of delicious curry, I visited Ootaya in Kanemitsu-cho. It is located along a road off the main highway, making it difficult to find without navigation. The exterior looks like a regular house, but there are signs and banners that make it distinguishable up close. The restaurant has both table and counter seating, and despite my early arrival, there were already two other customers leisurely enjoying their tea. Although the specialty is curry, locals mainly use it as a coffee shop. I ordered the Shrimp Fry Curry (1000 yen), which arrived in less than 10 minutes. The shrimp fry came on a separate plate with four thin shrimp tails and a salad. The curry sauce was made with minced meat and had been stewed for two days, resulting in a rich and spicy, yet elegant flavor. The master mentioned that in addition to vegetables, several fruits were also simmered in the curry, adding depth to the taste. Ootaya has been in business for 16 years in this area, with the master having previously worked in a dining establishment in Fukuyama. Googleマップを頼りに突撃入店です。リアル昭和の風情に若干不安になりましたが、とても美味しいスパイスカレーです。 東京の超有名な某カレー屋よりも、個人的にはこちらの方が美味しかったです。 店主がなかなかのご高齢ですが、いつまでも元気に頑張って欲しいお店です。
